Pressestimmen
“Delectably astringent. . . . These succinct, acridly funny pieces. . . deliver a heady punch.” —Los Angeles Times“She has a cool wit, sometimes brutally satirical, always entertaining, and serious to the bone.” —Katherine Dunn, The Oregonian"Atwood’s sentences have more bounce and boogie than those of most twentysomethings.... And although these stories take many forms, from extended metaphor to anecdote, from poem to gag, they are all very much to do with the life and opinions of Margaret Atwood.” —The Times (London)“The Tent exposes the nuts and bolts of the tortuous creative process....The book powerfully exhibits the human consciousness in conversation with itself, struggling to establish a voice amid the cacophony.” —The Observer

Great short, short stories often with a twist, or a pun, one can hardly put the book aside before one has reached the last page. This is also something for people who are not into novels or longish shorter fiction but who want to read just a few pages before falling asleep to have something to mull over and smile about before leaving into oblivion.
I am a big fan of Margaret Atwood. I have read all but one of her prose fiction and I usually finish one of her books looking ahead for another. I prefer her novels although "Wilderness Tips" is one of the best short story collections I've ever read. She surprized me with "Good Bones and Simple Murders" because of the brevity of her stories. "The Tent" falls into the same format of a collection of whimsical sketches. I liken this format to buying one of Picasso's doodle pads; It would have been nice to have the oil painting but there's still something to appreciate in what you got.Ms. Atwood divides her sketches into three chapters (thus enabling the book to add another half dozen blank pages to the other 10 or so (in a 154 page book!). For what it's worth, my favorites were all in Chapter 2. I enjoyed the pointed satire of "Chicken Little Goes Too Far", I liked the humor of "Three Novels I Won't Write Soon", I liked the subtlety of "Heritage House", I was impressed with "Bring Back Mom: An Invocation" and, finally, I loved the perspective of "Post-Colonial". These were worth buying (and reading) the book.Margaret Atwood has a very insightful way of looking at people and their relationships. Her novels take you places in those areas that others could not find. I missed that in "The Tent" but I still came away knowing more than when I started.
Margaret Atwood is among my favorite authors. The tent was a disappointment for me. I thought they were short stories. Actually they where miscellaneous thoughts and impressions. I enjoyed a few of them but some were just using that left me flat.
I love Margaret Atwood. While reading this collection of poems and shorts, I couldn't help but be amazed by how masterfully she composes. She is both witty and engaging, sometimes snarky and blunt, each word chosen purposefully. Providing a glimpse at our failings and successes as humans, both micro and macrocosmic, she delivers pointed snippets of wisdom to be taken with a grain of salt.
Exciting and surprising short stories, extremely well written!
This collection of poetry and prose is an enjoyable read, and a must-read for Atwood fans. The illustrations are nice as well.
